The Phuket Hotel Market Update mid-year report by the hospitality consulting firm C9 Hotelworks showed that the slowdown in hotel construction sites has however not dented developers’ enthusiasm for entering the accommodation market on the island. C9’s managing director Bill Barnett said that despite the delays new developments continued to enter the stream with 38 properties offering 6231 rooms at various stages of advancement in the construction cycle. “Non-traditional products such as hotel managed villas and condos now represent 34 percent of the upcoming inventory” he added. Currently there are nearly 40000 rooms in the country’s top tourist destination ranging from guest houses up through to branded hotels. Approximately 10000 of these or 25 percent of total supply is international star rated.

All three people implicated in the shooting death of a Canadian in Ranong have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison according to a relative of the victim the calgaryherald.
